Weekend Premier League Fixtures
It’s matchday 35 or 38 in the Premier League and teams are running out of time to finish as high up the division as possible. There are some huge games this weekend that could give us a better idea of where teams will end up at the end of the season. Let’s see which weekend Premier League fixtures are taking place.
Bournemouth v Chelsea
Bournemouth and Chelsea are currently on the same amount of points which would have been hard to believe just a few weeks ago. Chelsea have struggled for consistent form this year but with rumours swilling about who their next manager could be, they’ll be wanting this season to finish so they can look to do better next year. Bournemouth look to be safe for another year in the Premier League and would seal there position with a win against Chelsea.
Manchester City v Leeds United
Manchester City look set to land another Premier League title and are still in contention for an incredible treble. City are currently top by a point with a game in hand and would expect to take all 3 points against Leeds at the Etihad. United are currently in 17th position with a better goal difference than fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest. They’ll be hoping that other teams around them drop points or that new manager Sam Allardyce can find a way to take some points off the leaders of the Premier League.
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Aston Villa
Wolves would like to think that they are out of danger being 7 points ahead of relegation. They face an in-form Aston Villa side that are pushing for a place in Europe next season. Villa are currently only 1 point off Brighton in 6th and are level on points with Spurs. Wolves would like to add another 3 points to really cement their place in the league for next season.
Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace
Spurs welcome a Palace side that have had decent results recently. They currently sit in 11th position on 40 points and might just be starting to take their foot off the peddle for this season. Spurs are still in the hunt for European places but are struggling to produce a consistent run of performances. Their last defeat against Liverpool will have been hard to take after a super fight back but they’ll want to add 3 points to their push for a place in the Europa League.
Liverpool v Brentford
After Liverpool’s indifferent performances this season, they still find themselves with a possibility of reaching the Champions League. They’re just 4 points behind Manchester United who have a game in hand, a Europa League place is much more likely for The Reds, however. They’ll welcome Brentford to Anfield who have had a fantastic season and are just 4 points off a potential place in the Europa Conference League. A win for either team could make the final days of the season very interesting.
Newcastle United v Arsenal
In a big game at the top of the Premier League, Newcastle could potentially end the title race if they beat Arsenal at St James’ Park. Arsenal are just 1 point behind City but have played one game more and they’ll be desperate to keep the pressure on City as much as they can. Newcastle have been in incredible form lately with wins over Southampton, Everton, Tottenham and Brentford and will want to cement their place in the Champions League for next season.
West Ham United v Manchester United
West Ham find themselves just 4 points ahead of the relegation zone and face a Manchester United team that look set to play in the Champions League next season and an FA Cup Final to look forward to. West Ham can all but guarantee their presence in next season’s Premier League with a win. Manchester United have Liverpool and Brighton breathing down their necks for top 4 and will want the 3 points to put off any challengers to their current position.
Fulham v Leicester
Fulham would have been in many people’s bottom 3 for this season but the Cottagers currently find themselves in 10th place. They welcome a Leicester City team that are in 16th position by goal difference and will be fighting tooth and nail to stay in the Premier League. A win for Leicester would put a huge amount of pressure on the teams around them and would give us a better idea of the teams that might not be in the league when next season comes.
Brighton v Everton
Brighton are in 6th place with 2 games in hand on Liverpool in 5th. They look set to take part in Europe next season, the question is, which competition? They take on a struggling Everton side that are now 1 point from safety in 19th position. A win for the Toffees would put a huge amount of pressure on fellow strugglers but they are running out of time to save their Premier League status.
Nottingham Forest v Southampton
A big game at the bottom of the Premier League as bottom side Southampton take on 18th place Nottingham Forest. Southampton are now 7 points from safety and it looks likely they’ll be spending the 23/24 season in the Championship. Nottingham Forest still have a chance of survival if they can get some much needed form.
