History of West Ham United FC
Founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks FC, the club became West Ham United in 1900 and has a proud history in English football. The Hammers have won the FA Cup three times (1964, 1975, 1980) and lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023 — their first major European trophy in 58 years.
West Ham are renowned for their famous academy, “The Academy of Football,” which has produced legendary talents such as Bobby Moore, Sir Geoff Hurst, and Martin Peters — all integral to England’s 1966 World Cup triumph. In more recent years, players like Declan Rice and Mark Noble have embodied the club’s values of commitment and community.
The move to London Stadium marked a new era for the club, providing a platform for growth on and off the pitch while maintaining the proud traditions established at the Boleyn Ground.
Legends
West Ham United’s history is defined by iconic figures who have worn the claret and blue. Bobby Moore, the only England captain to lift the FIFA World Cup, remains a symbol of leadership and sportsmanship. Sir Geoff Hurst, famed for his hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup final, and Martin Peters, “the complete midfielder,” are also immortalised in football history. Modern-day heroes such as Paolo Di Canio, Mark Noble, and Michail Antonio have captured the hearts of the supporters and strengthened the bond between the club and its loyal fanbase.
