Weekend Football Results

As the end of the season draws to a close, points matter more than ever at both ends of the Premier League table. The FA Cup semi-finals also took place this weekend with Chelsea taking on last year’s winners Manchester City and Manchester United facing Championship side Coventry City. Let’s take a look at all the weekend football results.

FA Cup Results

Manchester City 1-0 Chelsea

Manchester City are through to another FA Cup final after beating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley. a single goal from Bernardo Silva in the 84th minute saw City take the win. It was important for City to get back to winning ways after their exit from the Champions League to Real Madrid in mid-week.

Coventry City 3-3 Manchester United (Manchester United win 4-2 on penalties)

Manchester United scraped through to the FA Cup final after originally being 3-0 up in a game that should have been straight forward for the Red Devils. Goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes gave United what many would have thought was an unassailable lead at 58 minutes, but Coventry had other ideas. Simms, O’Hare and Wright made the scores level, which took the game to extra time. Manchester United eventually went on to win 4-2 on penalties, setting up another Manchester derby in the FA Cup Final.

Premier League Results

Luton Town 1-5 Brentford

Brentford look to be safe from relegation after a huge 5-1 win away to Luton. Wissa opened the scoring in the 24th minute and doubled the lead in stoppage time of the first half. More goals from Pinnock, Lewis-Potter and Schade put Brentford 5-0 up. A consolation goal for Luton in the 92nd minute was scored by Berry. Luton stay just a point from safety with Nottingham Forest ahead of them.

Sheffield United 1-4 Burnley

In another game between two relegation battlers, Burnley travelled to Bramall Lane having been in decent form recently. Goals from Bruun Larsen, Assignon, Foster and Gudmundsson saw Burnley take all three points and in with a chance of survival. They’re now just 3 points from safety with Sheffield United 10 points behind 17th spot.

Wolves 0-2 Arsenal

Arsenal went to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win away at Wolves on Saturday evening. Trossard put the Gunners ahead just before half-time and Odegaard put the game beyond doubt in the 95th minute. Arsenal are top on goal difference with Liverpool and City just a point behind but with a game in hand.

Everton 2-0 Nottingham Forest

A third relegation match-up took place at Goodison with Everton welcoming Nottingham Forest. Everton took the lead through a superb strike from Gueye in the 29th minute with Dwight McNeil doubling the lead in the 76th minute. The Toffees are now 5 points from 18th with a game in hand. The result leaves Forest in a precarious position, just 1 point ahead of the dreaded drop zone.

Aston Villa 3-1 Bournemouth

Villa took another step to qualifying for next season’s Champions League with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth at Villa Park. Bournemouth took the lead through a penalty from Dominic Solanke in the 31st minute. Aston Villa came storming back though, equalising in the 46th minute of the first half through Rogers. Diaby and Bailey would seal the three points, putting Villa 6 points ahead of Spurs who have 2 games in hand to play.

Crystal Palace 5-2 West Ham United

Palace made it two Premier League wins in a row with their 5-2 victory over The Hammers. Goals from Olise, Eze, an Emerson own goal and two from Mateta saw Palace rise to 14th in the league and now 11 points from the drop zone. West Ham sit in 8th and still in the hunt for a European spot after their exit from the Europa League to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night.

Fulham 1-3 Liverpool

The Reds will have been keen to find form again after a string of defeats in the league and Europa. A superb free kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold opened the scoring before Fulham equalised just before half-time. Liverpool earned all three points after goals from Gravenberch and Jota. They’re now second in the league on goal difference to Arsenal.
