Manchester United 22/23
United had an impressive season in 2023/24. Finishing in 3rd in the Premier League means they will be taking part in the Champions League this season. They also reached the final of the FA Cup, losing out to local rivals Manchester City. Manchester United were able to win some silverware last season, taking the Carabao Cup trophy.
Their current manager Erik Ten Hag has instilled some much needed confidence into the team and they are performing much closer to the historically high standards. The additions of players such as Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro in recent years have steadied the ship, meaning United can now compete on multiple fronts. Ten Hag has also been able to get the best out of Englishman Marcus Rashford, whose return to form has been a catalyst for the brilliant performances that the team have seen.
History of Manchester United
Founded in 1878 as Newton Heath L&YR Football Club, Manchester United has been around for over 140 years. It was the start of the 1892-93 season that the club would enter the English First Division, before changing their name to Manchester United in 1902. It would be 6 years before the club would win their first title our of the 20 they currently have, in 1908.
During the 40s and 50s, the club would see an unprecedented amount of success, winning the FA Cup in 1948 and hiring Sir Matt Busby as manager in the 50s. The manager would build a famous team around youth players who would come to be known as the “Busby Babes”.
From Sir Matt Busby to another legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson took the helm in 1986. The club were sitting second from bottom in the league at the time, but it wouldn’t take long for Fergie to start winning. In 1990, United would win the FA Cup, which was the start of a period of success. Since 1992, the club have won a total of 13 Premier League titles, 12 FA cups, 4 League Cups, 3 European Champions Cups and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
