Football Results From The Weekend
It was another intense weekend of football action with games taking place in the FA Cup and Premier League. With the international break right around the corner, it was the final chance for teams in the Premier League to bag some hard-earned points. The FA Cup Quarter-Final games also took place and we now know who the Semi-Final teams are! Let’s take a look at all the action:
Premier League
Burnley 2-1 Brentford
Struggling Brentford travelled to Turf Moor to face a Burnley side that already look to be relegated from the Premier League. But it was the joint bottom team that took an early lead through a penalty from Jacob Bruun Larsen after a straight red for Sergio Reguilon. Burnley went 2-0 up in the 62nd minute with a goal from Fofana. Brentford scored a late goal to give them hope through Kristoffer Ajer but it was Burnley that took all 3 points.
Luton 1-1 Nottingham Forest
Another Premier League relegation scrap took place this weekend with Nottingham Forest taking the lead in the 34th minute through Chris Wood. Luton scored a very late equaliser in the 89th minute with a goal from Luke Berry. Luton are 3 points behind Forest in 18th place.
Fulham 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Top-4 chasing Tottenham travelled to Craven Cottage, hoping to jump ahead of Aston Villa in the race for Champions League football next season. Fulham took the lead late in the first half with a goal from Rodrigo Muniz, Sasa Lukic would double the lead in the 49th minute and Muniz would go on to score his second in the 61st minute. Spurs still have a game in hand on Villa who are now just 3 points ahead in 4th spot.
West Ham United 1-1 Aston Villa
Villa kept their Champions League hopes alive with a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium. West Ham, who are themselves hunting European football for next season took the lead in the 29th minute through Michail Antonio. Nicolo Zaniolo equalised for Villa in the 79th minute.
FA Cup Quarter Finals
Wolves 2-3 Coventry
In a game of comebacks, Championship side Coventry took the lead in the 53rd minute through Everton loanee Ellis Simms. Wolves would be 2-1 in the lead by the 88th minute with goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno. Deep into stoppage time, Coventry found themselves with a spot in the FA Cup Semi-Finals after another goal from Simms in the 97th minute and the winner from Haji Wright in the 100th minute. Coventry will face Manchester United at Wembley in April for the right to play in the FA Cup Final.
Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
Two first-half goals from Bernardo Silva saw The Citizens through to the FA Cup Semi-Final stage after dominating the game at the Etihad Stadium. City will face Chelsea at Wembley in the FA Cup Semi-Final.
Chelsea 4-2 Leicester City
Chelsea welcomed promotion chasers Leicester City to Stamford Bridge and took an early lead through Marc Cucrella. Leicester would find themselves 2-0 down at half-time after a goal from Cole Palmer. But The Foxes were able to fight back to make the game 2-2 after an own goal by Axel Disasi and a goal from Stephy Mavididi in the 62nd minute. Chelsea would rescue the game in the 92nd and 98th minute with goals from Chukwuemeka and Madueke. Chelsea will play Manchester City in the Semi-Final of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium in April.
Manchester United 4-3 Liverpool
In the tie of the round, Manchester United faced Liverpool at Old Trafford. United took the early lead through Scott McTominay after 10 minutes. The Red Devils would go in at the break 2-1 down though, after goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah. It would take until the 87th minute for United to equalise through Antony, taking the game to extra time. Harvey Elliott would give Liverpool the lead again in the 105th minute. Marcus Rashford would equalise in the 112th minute and Amad Diallo went on to win the game in the 121st minute rescuing the game from a penalty shootout. United will face Championship side Coventry in the Semi-Final of the FA Cup.
