Manchester United Club Bids
Manchester United extend deadline for bids
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheik Jassim are to submit new bids to the Glazers for the ownership of Manchester United football club. The deadline for bids was set at 9pm on 22nd March which several other proposed investors had met. Amid the confusion, Ratcliffe and Jassim were given extensions to place fresh bids. Ratcliffe is said to be looking to buy 69% of the club, which is what what the Glazers own, however the Qataris are setting their sights on 100% of the club.
Sheikh Jassim is described as a life-long United fan and is chairman of the Qatari bank as well as being the son of a former prime minister of Qatar.
The Ineos Group who are owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe have a history of owning sports teams across the world, currently owning Ligue 1 club Nice and Lausanne in Switzerland. They have also signed a five-year partnership with the Mercedes Formula 1 team, as well as owning British-based cycling Team Sky and Ineos Britannia which is led by previous British Olympian, Sir Ben Ainslie.
No date has been set for a conclusion to the sale of Manchester United and with the club performing better in recent months, under the management of Erik Ten Hag, the Glazers may well want to sell a minority stake, rather than the entire club.
