Champions League Returns
The Champions League returns this week at the quarter final stage with some huge matches taking place. Let’s take a look at who is facing who, for a place in the semi finals:
Benfica v Inter Milan
Benfica welcome Inter to the Estadio da Luz on Tuesday and will be hoping to take a decent result to the San Siro next week. They currently sit at the top or the Liga Portugal, 7 points ahead of rivals Porto and having knocked Club Brugge out in the last round. Inter booked their place in the quarters after beating Porto 1-0 at home in the first leg and drawing 0-0 when travelling to Portugal which was enough to see them go through. They have been struggling in the Serie A this season, currently in 5th place but have performed well in the Champions League.
Manchester City v Bayern Munich
In a huge draw that sees Pep Guardiola return to the team he won the Champions League with, Manchester City will face Bayern Munich in what should be an exciting tie. City are currently chasing down Arsenal at the top of the Premier League and are in the semi final of the FA Cup. Fighting for 3 trophies could see Pep tinker with his team. Bayern Munich are also in a title race, just 2 points ahead of rivals Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Both sides are flying at the moment, so expect a fantastic attacking display in this one.
Real Madrid v Chelsea
A team that nobody would have wanted to draw is Real Madrid. Current champions and 14 time winners of the much coveted trophy. Madrid have struggled in the league this year, sitting 13 points behind arch rivals Barcelona. However, the Champions League is a different story and will certainly fancy their chances against a Chelsea side that are 11th in the Premier League. Chelsea can cause some problems but will want to still be in contention when they bring Madrid back to Stamford Bridge next week.
Napoli v AC Milan
Napoli are one of the best sides across the top European leagues at the moment with front men Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia terrorising defenses in Italy, which sees them at the top of the table by 16 points. They face a Milan side that are currently 4th in the table. The two faced each other in the league recently which led to a 4-0 Milan victory. It will be interesting to see if Napoli struggle again or if that was just a blip in an otherwise fantastic season for them.
