Aintree Grand National 2026 – The Ultimate Hospitality Experience

Few sporting events anywhere in the world capture the imagination quite like the Grand National at Aintree. Since its first official running in 1839, the race has become a cornerstone of British sporting culture – a thrilling four-mile test of courage, stamina and jumping that stops the nation every spring.

The Grand National is back, and our hospitality packages provide exceptional dining and a range of exclusive extras to elevate your raceday.

A Race Like No Other – The History of the Grand National

The Grand National is not just Britain’s biggest horse race – it is the most famous steeplechase on the planet. For over 180 years it has produced moments of drama, heartbreak and triumph that have transcended sport, turning horses and jockeys into household names. From impossible comebacks to fairytale outsiders and stories of sheer human courage, these are some of the unforgettable moments that have shaped the legend of Aintree.

Red Rum – The Ultimate Grand National Legend (1973, 1974 & 1977)

No horse is more closely linked to the Grand National than Red Rum. Trained by Ginger McCain, he became a true national hero by winning the race an incredible three times in 1973, 1974 and 1977, and finishing second in the two years in between. His first victory is still talked about today – storming from last place to catch the leader after the final fence in a heart-stopping finish. Red Rum’s rise from injury problems to racing immortality perfectly captures the magic of Aintree.

Foinavon – The 100/1 Fairytale (1967)

Foinavon, a 100/1 outsider, was trailing the field when disaster struck at the 23rd fence. Almost every horse fell or was badly checked, but jockey John Buckingham calmly steered Foinavon around the chaos. Suddenly, the unfancied runner found himself clear in front and galloped all the way to an unforgettable victory. The moment was so extraordinary that the fence was later renamed Foinavon Fence in his honour.

Rachael Blackmore’s Historic Win (2021)

Rachael Blackmore made history by becoming the first female jockey to win the Grand National, riding Minella Times to victory. Her ride was praised across the racing world as she delivered a perfectly judged performance over Aintree’s famous fences. It was a landmark moment that showed the barriers in racing are continuing to fall.
