Old Trafford, which is commonly known as “The Theatre of Dreams” was opened on February 19th, 1910 and had a capacity of approximately 80,000.The stadium would need to be rebuilt after World War 2 due to heavy bombing, when the stadium was used as a military depot and on August 24th, 1949, the stadium reopened. The stadium has gone through a number of modifications with floodlights being installed in 1957 and covers over stands in 1959. Old Trafford has also been reduced to as low as 44000 in 1992. Afterwards, Manchester United began to expand the stadium again, bringing the capacity to approximately to 58000 in ’96, 68000 in ’00 and 76000 in ’06.

Getting to Old Trafford
By Car
The roads around Old Trafford are extremely busy, especially on matchdays. You can book official car parking in advance but the club advises visitors to allow more time for your journey if arriving by car. If travelling by taxi from Manchester Airport, this should take around 20-30 minutes and from Piccadilly Railway Station around 15 minutes.

By Metrolink
Old Trafford station is just a 5-minute walk from the ground and you can find many Metrolink stations from the city centre that will take you there.

By Train
The closest station is Piccadilly and you can make your way from there by taxi to the ground.

By Foot
Sandhills and Kirkdale Railway Stations are just a 30-minute walk from Anfield

It was the start of the 1892-93 season that the club would enter the English First Division, before changing their name to Manchester United in 1902. It would be 6 years before the club would win their first title our of the 20 they currently have, in 1908.

During the 40s and 50s, the club would see an unprecedented amount of success, winning the FA Cup in 1948 and hiring Sir Matt Busby as manager in the 50s. The manager would build a famous team around youth players who would come to be known as the “Busby Babes”.

From Sir Matt Busby to another legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson took the helm in 1986. The club were sitting second from bottom in the league at the time, but it wouldn’t take long for Fergie to start winning. In 1990, United would win the FA Cup, which was the start of a period of success. Since 1992, the club have won a total of 13 Premier League titles, 13 FA cups, 4 League Cups, 3 European Champions Cups and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
